Bio
Dime Store Camera, an indie rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area, offers an unfiltered view of American life with the same low-fidelity glory of a sonic Polaroid. Their music captures scenes of desire, loss and resilience amidst reverberant guitars, melodic bass lines and pop synth hooks. With big singable choruses and vivid storytelling details, Dime Store Camera’s songs channel Springsteen, Death Cab for Cutie, The Killers - and a healthy dose of 80’s alternative.
Dime Store Camera is lead by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Raja Singh. A Flint, Michigan native turned California refugee, Singh traded his Silicon Valley stock options for an all-ages venue, studio and music in 2005. His ‘Red House’ became a mainstay in the local East Bay scene, hosting indie, hard core, rap and metal - and connecting musicians across generations - for over 11 years.
Following Red House’s demise in 2016, Singh channeled his energies into his own music - his 80’s band, The Accents, and his Stax Tribute project, The Vlociters - but most importantly his own songwriting. Channeling his own experiences at mid-life, and the acute political and social justice issues of the decade, the songs poured out like never before.
Dime Store Camera is eschewing the traditional album format for the release of its first 11 songs, and instead releasing a series of singles. The songs were produced and mixed by Luke Bace, with drums from Jason Slota, additional guitars and piano from Jeff Magidson. Special thanks to Bonnie Hayes and Raz Kennedy for their coaching, and to Tiny Telephone Studios, the iconic vintage studio where the project kicked off.
Stayed tuned for live dates in the Fall, as Dime Store Camera emerges from the studio into a full rock experience.
